65 DEAD AS SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM FIGHTERS SACK BORNO VILLAGE

Scary reports have emanated from the state of Borno, as an attack carried out by suspected Boko Haram fighters has left no fewer than 65 people dead, a local official has revealed.
According to AL JAZEERA, dozens of bodies were discovered on Sunday after gunmen attacked a village close to the state capital, Maiduguri.
“It is 65 people dead and 10 injured,” said the local government chairman, Muhammed Bulama.
According to Bulama, he had at first thought that was made to retaliate the killing of 11 Boko Haram fighters by residents of the village which occurred two weeks ago as the insurgents approached the village.
“The villagers resisted the [earlier] attack, killed 11 insurgents and recovered 10 AK-47 rifles in the encounter,” he added.
“On Saturday at about 11:40 am, the insurgents came on a reprisal mission, attacking mourners at a graveyard in the area.”
A different account was however given by Bunu Bukar Mustapha, the leader of a local anti-Boko Haram militia as he confirmed the incident.
He reported to AFP that 23 people were murdered on their way back from a funeral, while, “the remaining 42 were killed when they pursued the terrorists”.
No group is yet to come out to claim responsibility for the incident, but the attack bears the hallmark of Boko Haram, according to Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris.
Boko Haram has waged an armed struggle in the Northern region of the country displacing up to two million people while thousands have lost their lives to the terrorist group within a decade.
The group in 2016 however, split into two main factions, with each faction having Abubakar Shekau and Abu Musab al-Barnawi as their respective leaders.
