The House of Rep has pardoned Mr Gogo Bright, a member from rivers state who had snatched the mace on July 3rd 2019 at a plenary.
Bright had carried out the action when protesting against the emergence of the minority leader of the House of Representative. An ad hoc committee was set up by the House to look into the matter and make appropriate recommendations.
On Thursday, the panel’s report which had recommended the suspension of Bright for 30 legislative days was considered.
The panel had stated that Bright’s reaction had led to a breach in the Code of Conduct of the House.
Bright had however in time past apologized to the committee and had withdrawn the case he filed against the House.
The Speaker of the House Femi Gbajabiamila, had urged the house to take his apology into consideration and rescind their decision to probe into the matter and the report should be stood down.
The speaker’s plea was unanimously accepted and Ndudi Elumelu, the Minority Leader, praised the speaker for his style of leadership.
