Manchester United have reportedly identified Barcelona’s Croatian midfielder, Ivan Rakitic as the ideal replacement for Paul Pogba if the French World Cup winner leaves the club for Real Madrid this summer. Rakitic is rumoured to be unsettled at the Camp Nou with the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax Amsterdam.
Pogba is Zinedine Zidane’s major transfer target in the ongoing window, with the French manager hoping that the former Juventus man can bring an improvement to his midfield.
The Real Madrid boss has not hidden his admiration for his compatriot claiming that very few players are capable of doing what Pogba is capable of.
Real Madrid have already spent a lot of money on players this summer with Hazard, Militao, Jovic, and Mendy joining the ranks at the Bernabeu.
Unfortunately, none of the signings has made much of a mark in pre-season, with the European giants losing heavily to their city rivals, Atletico in the International Champions Cup.
Pogba has already expressed his desire to leave Manchester United as he claims to be in search of a new challenge. The Premier League side is adamant that Pogba is not for sale and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has promised to give the Frenchman the new challenge he craves at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are making moves to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon whether Pogba stays or leaves but they are already looking to sign Rakitic from Barcelona if the Frenchman leaves Old Trafford according to Sport. Barca value the World Cup finalist £45million.
Barca are reportedly looking to reduce the size of their squad and the upcoming week could see a lot of action before the end of Premier League’s transfer window.
The Spanish outlet claim that United in recent weeks has made overtures to Barca over the potential sale of Rakitic and the Catalan club are expecting an offer for him imminently.
Manchester United will begin their Premier League challenge on the 11th of August when they would play against Chelsea. It remains to be seen if Paul Pogba or Ivan Rakitic would be starting for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
Do you think Rakitic would be a perfect replacement for Paul Pogba if he leaves for Real Madrid?
